The Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) course lasts for 4 days and builds on the knowledge and skills you developed during your Assistant Instructor course to arm you with additional methods of teaching. This is the second part please after reading below go to the Instructor Development Course section for more information. During the (OWSI) You'll learn to teach prescriptively, and you'll fine-tune the knowledge of the PADI system with an introduction to teaching continuing education courses, a workshop on diver rescue, and more.

What do I need to start..?

PADI Assistant Instructor rating or qualifying instructor certification, certified diver for at least six months, with at least 60 logged dives, proof of CPR and first aid training within the last 24 months.

What we will do...

Self-study - knowledge reviews, knowledge development sessions, candidate presentations and workshops.
Confined water - skills review and assessment, workshops and candidate presentations
Open water - workshops, rescue assessment and presentations

Must have a minimum of 100 logged dives to become a PADI Instructor
Time for completion: Five days

How long will it take and where..?

This is just a question of your level; for Divemasters you will need full (IDC) - 7-9 Days and anyone who is a Assistant Instructor or Crossing over from another agency and already an Instructor you need just the second part the (OWSI) section typically the last 5 Days. The Course can be offered around the UK (I can travel to you) or I offer Instructor Course getaways. This leaves you free from commitments at home so you can just concentrate on the course during the day and relax of an evening, leaving you fresh for the next day (see more on travel section here)

At satisfactory completion of your OWSI course, you'll qualify to attend the Instructor Examination - a two-day evaluation conducted by PADI office staff where you'll be examined on your dive theory knowledge and classroom, confined water and open water teaching presentation as well as diver rescue. You'll also notice just what I mean about being proud you've trained with me!

Please ask any questions regarding your Instructor Course

Calendar shows where I will be and duration of my time there. If I am in your area and you want to join a course, contact me for locations. If you see any dates free and would like me to visit your dive centre or location, drop me an email with location, course interest and possible dates.
Want to know more about how your cylinders weight changes during a dive..? Video has information on what effects the weight change and has tests showing cylinders at different air pressures during dives in salt and fresh water. It displays whether they have Negative, Neutral or Positive Buoyancy. More details found at www.sidemountscubadiving.com
