What is a First Aider and why do I need them..?
A first aider is someone who has completed an HSE approved training course in first aid for the workplace, from an accredited training provider. They will receive training in the various elements of first aid as it applies to a workplace, including accident reporting and documentation requirements. Furthermore, they will be trained to administer emergency aid to a casualty and manage the situation until the emergency services are able to attend.
The Emergency First Response (EFR) First Aid at Work (Great Britain) course is a Health and Safety Executive (HSE) approved first aid course for the purpose of meeting the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. This programme meets the statutory needs of employers in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland needing at least one First Aider on the premises. It has been customised to UK Resuscitation Council basic life support protocols and nationally accepted first aid protocols

Whats involved and how long will it take..?
Our First Aid at Work courses are conducted over 24 hours normally run over four days with a final assessment of the students skills and knowledge on the fourth day. and cover all the HSE's required syllabus, and essentially extend the Primary and Secondary Care course to include additional content of use specifically in a workplace. As with our Primary and Secondary Care Course, we provide training in AED use and offer an optional PADI Oxygen Administration Course. The course also reviews COSSH guidelines, RIDDOR , first aid requirements in the workplace, the first aid box and record keeping.
I also include training on the use of AED's (Automated External Defibrillator) on our First Aid at Work course. Completing all course requirements gives participants a first aid at work qualification that is valid for a period of three years.
Personal copy of participant manual & DVD provided to each candidate to retain after the course, along with a completion certificate valid for 3 years. First Aiders need to attend a (2 Day) Refresher Course before the 3 year period is over to have there rating renewed. If they do not they will have to retake the full 4 Day course again.
